Fans worldwide have been, and in some cases still are, concerned about Sir Rod Stewart's health. Now, his wife, Penny Lancaster, has spoken at length for the first time about her husband's recovery in an interview.

During the YouTube show "At Home With Vanessa," Penny told host Vanessa Feltz, "He's doing great. Really well." She emphasized, however, that his family is closely monitoring his recovery.

"He's already back at the gym," she revealed. He has resumed his daily activities, but those around him are still being cautious.

Penny said that she, her brother, Rod's trainer, and the doctors are working together to prevent him from overexerting himself.

INSTRUCTIONSShe added, "We're not letting him get away with it. He has to follow the instructions."

The close monitoring reflects Rod's desire to remain active. However, his recovery continues to be closely monitored by those close to him. Penny recalled that Rod had an upper respiratory infection and later performed at high altitude.

During his performance in the US state, he required supplemental oxygen during the concert, which caused a stir in the media and on social media at the time.

Penny said that altitude could be challenging for anyone, but added, "What we didn't know at the time was that Rod had a heart condition." Medical tests subsequently revealed a slight narrowing of the artery. Despite this, Penny described Rod as one of the fittest people she knew.

She said his fitness was comparable to that of a fifty-year-old and added that the problem was detected early and only required a stent.

Penny added that the doctors had been particularly careful because Rod's concerts required intense and sustained exertion.

She compared his preparation routine to that of a boxer in the locker room. She explained, "He uses an exercise bike to warm up his legs and his voice. He prepares intensively for each of his performances."
