Im Jahr 2025 entstand in der Storyteller-Redaktion die Idee, das Leben und die Musik in musikalischer Art und Weise zu würdigen. Wir fackelten nicht lange und begannen damit Songtexte zu schreiben, die sich alle auf die Karriere von Sir Rod bezogen. In nur wenigen Wochen kamen so über 80 Songtexte zusammen. Dabei bezogen wir uns unter anderem auch auf aktuelle Ereignisse, wie das 200. Konzert in Las Vegas im Caesars Palace oder die Ernennung zum Ehrenbürger von Buenos Aires. Auch würdigten wir in einem Song Rod's 81. Geburtstag.
Wir hatten also die Texte, aber wie würden wir daraus zur Musik kommen? Wir nahmen Kontakt auf zu einer uns bekannten Band in Bonn: Den Silver Freaks, eine deutsche Coverband, die vorzugsweise auf privaten Veranstaltungen spielen, wie Hochzeiten und Geburtstagen. Gemeinsam mit den "Freaks" gingen wir an die musikalische Umsetzung, wobei die Band einige Songs selber einsang, einige wurden - und da spielen wir natürlich mit offenen Karten - mit den heutigen technischen Möglichkeiten produziert. Insgesamt aber sind wir mit dem Ergebnis sehr zufrieden, und möchten nun eine Auswahl dieser Songs vorstellen.
In 2025, the Storyteller editorial team came up with the idea of paying tribute to Sir Rod’s life and music through song. We didn’t waste any time and set about writing song lyrics, all of which related to Sir Rod’s career. In just a few weeks, we had compiled over 80 sets of lyrics. Among other things, we drew on current events, such as his 200th concert at Caesars Palace in Las Vegas or his appointment as an honorary citizen of Buenos Aires. We also paid tribute to Rod’s 81st birthday in one of the songs.
So we had the lyrics, but how would we turn them into music? We got in touch with a band we knew in Bonn: the Silver Freaks, a German cover band who mainly play at private events such as weddings and birthdays. Together with the ‘Freaks’, we set about the musical arrangement; the band sang some of the songs themselves, whilst others – and here, of course, we’re being completely open – were produced using modern technology. Overall, however, we’re very pleased with the result, and would now like to present a selection of these songs.
81 (But Not A Bit Quiet)

We wrote this song to mark Sir Rod’s 81st birthday in January 2026. The song title is intended to convey that, even in his old age, Rod has lost none of his energy and charisma on stage.
