Rod Stewart and his advice for Celtic manager Martin O’Neill

Even though Sir Rod Stewart treated himself to a bit of culture in London on Thursday by going to see the Frank Sinatra musical (Sinatra The Musical), he was, of course, fully up to speed at all times on what his ‘Bhoys in Green’ were getting up to (or not) on the pitch in faraway Portugal. Celtic Football Club’s 1–4 thrashing in Lisbon naturally didn’t go down well at all with the singer and die-hard Celtic fan, even if he didn’t let it completely spoil his evening at the Aldwych Theatre.

A day after the Hoops’ second defeat in the Europa League, Sir Rod addressed manager Martin O’Neill directly in a video, sharing his wishes for the line-up for the upcoming clash with Heart of Midlothian (Sunday, 2.00 pm CEST).

“It’s Rod here, I’ve had a few drinks,” the 81-year-old began his message. “I’m at an event in London at the moment, but I just wanted to say a quick word. Martin, we’ve got to put Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain in central midfield. We’re lacking that cutting edge there, mate. We’ve got to put Hasseim Hassan on one wing, Callum Osmond on the other, and Duran right up front. I’m only saying this because that’s how I feel. I love this team so much.”

He said as much and signed off by announcing that he wouldn’t be missing Sunday’s match. “See you all on Sunday for the game against the Hearts.”
