In just a few hours, the Scottish national soccer team will kick off its World Cup campaign with a match against Haiti in Boston. For the first time in 28 years—since the World Cup in France—the Bravehearts have qualified for the World Cup finals. It’s an event that Scotland’s biggest fan, Rod Stewart, isn’t about to miss. Just one day after canceling his concert in San Diego due to a respiratory infection, Sir Rod set off this morning with his two sons, Alastair and Liam, for Boston, where the Group C opener kicks off at 9 p.m. local time tonight.
From the plane, Stewart posted a video, full of anticipation but still struggling with his voice. “It’s been 28 years,” Rod emphasized. “I’ve told my two boys about it, but they haven’t experienced it yet. This is now my seventh World Cup; I was in Argentina (1978), Germany (2006), France (1998), Italy (1990), and Mexico (1986)," said the 81-year-old. “If we make it to the next round this year, I’ll die happy,” Rod grinned at the camera and, together with his two sons, struck up the Scottish soccer fan song that has been a catchy tune since the 2024 European Championship in Germany: “No Scotland, no party”!
