Last-minute cancellation in San Diego

Just two days after his acclaimed performance at the Hollywood Bowl in Los Angeles, Sir Rod Stewart was forced to cancel another concert. Doctors diagnosed the singer with an acute upper respiratory tract infection, which had led to laryngitis, and advised him against performing.
Sir Rod himself tried everything to make it onto the stage somehow, but ultimately had to throw in the towel. “Here I am now in beautiful Chula Vista, the stage behind me,” Rod commented beneath a photo showing him on stage at the North Island Credit Union Amphitheatre. “After treatment, I feel much better, but my voice doesn’t. I am very disappointed and sincerely apologise for any inconvenience caused to my fans. I tried everything to make the show go ahead, but unfortunately that wasn’t possible,” Rod wrote on his social media channels. “I will do my best to find a new date.”
The third concert cancellation of this summer’s tour – following two cancellations in Las Vegas at the end of May – only reached fans shortly before the show was due to start. The promoter did not announce the cancellation until around 40 minutes before the start, by which time many fans were already at the venue or on their way there. It was the late timing of the announcement in particular that met with incomprehension and anger from many fans.

‘I’m absolutely gutted,’ wrote Kelly, for example. ‘I drove for six hours and now the show’s been cancelled. They could have let us know sooner.’ ‘An hour before the start? That’s really annoying,’ grumbled Bill. But there was also support from the audience. ‘I hope you feel better soon,’ said Judy, wishing him a speedy recovery. ‘I'm praying for our beloved Rod,’ Diana said. And special guest Richard Marx also spoke up and asked for understanding: "To everyone who came to Rod Stewart's concert in San Diego today with me as the special guest, believe me when I say on Rod's behalf that a cancellation is his worst nightmare. Rod is a professional and loves his fans like no other. A voice is a muscle, and he is only human. The cancellation came so late because he tried everything to make the concert happen somehow.”
