A great honour for Rod Stewart 19 years ago today: at Buckingham Palace in London, he received the CBE (Commander of the Order of the British Empire) from Prince Charles – now King Charles III. Stewart was honoured for his services to music. The singer arrived at the royal palace accompanied by his wife Penny, wearing a dark jacket, a white shirt and trousers, and a striking tie featuring a skull and crossbones motif.
The CBE is one of the so-called New Year Honours. The King (at that time still the Queen) announces this list at the turn of the year, with the awards ceremony taking place the following summer.
Nine years later, Stewart was knighted by the British Royal Family and has been entitled to call himself Sir Rod Stewart since 11 October 2016.
