German Rod Stewart fans will have the pleasure of seeing their idol perform for the second time in the coming days. After playing two sold-out shows in Dortmund and Bremen in May, Rod Stewart is returning in the coming days to perform in Hamburg, Leipzig, Mannheim, Cologne and Munich.
These concerts are also sold out, with only a few tickets remaining. With a bit of luck, last-minute fans can still win tickets in various competitions on local radio stations or secure a ticket on the fan resale site.
But why is Rod coming back to Germany again?
Basically, one could say that the German audience has discovered its late love for Sir Rod Stewart. Sure, his concerts have always been well attended and often sold out over the years, but since he started billing his performances with the slogan ‘One Last Time,’ audiences in Germany have literally been storming the doors. All of his performances in good old Germany over the last two years have been sold out, and the atmosphere at every concert has been fantastic. Rarely has Sir Rod had so much fun in Germany and enjoyed such a party-loving audience as he has recently.
German fans have always been and continue to be a loyal audience, even if this love was not necessarily reflected in sales figures. The last truly successful song in the German charts was ‘Baby Jane’, which reached number one in 1983. No Rod song since then has come close to matching that success.
But when it came to concert attendance, German fans were known to be reliable and usually came in droves when Sir Rod announced a show. Their love remained undiminished even when Stewart struggled with severe voice problems during his Vagabond Tour in 1991. The audience remained loyal to him, and still does to this day. Rod rewards this loyalty with evenings that are still energetic and rousing – not necessarily a given for an 80-year-old.
Even the singer himself sometimes can't believe that he's still jumping around on stage like a youngster at his advanced age. ‘I'm so damn fit, you won't believe it,’ Sir Rod is certain. ‘I train extensively, but I've always been very fit. I've played football all my life and I don't smoke. It's funny that the critics on this tour keep saying, “Oh, he's left the stage to rest”. No, I haven't. I left the stage because I was soaking wet with sweat.’
