What a celebration among the nearly 61,000 fans at a completely sold-out Celtic Park. Thanks to a deserved 3-1 (1-1) victory in the Glasgow derby against arch-rivals Rangers, the Hoops now hold their destiny in their own hands in the race for the Scottish Premiership title.
Following league leaders Heart of Midlothian’s draw last night in Motherwell (1–1), the Hoops are now just one point behind the Hearts with two games remaining, but can overtake them in Saturday’s head-to-head clash. Rangers, by contrast, have squandered their last chance of winning the title with today’s 1-3 defeat and will finish the season in third place.
Conversely, everyone in Glasgow who supports the green and white believes that Celtic will secure the 56th league title in the club’s history with a home win over the Hearts next weekend. However, manager Martin O’Neill’s men must first pick up points on Wednesday in their penultimate matchday away at Motherwell FC, where Hearts could only manage a draw yesterday.

But for now, there is jubilation, excitement and merriment in Glasgow and, above all, around Celtic Park. The Bhoys in Green celebrated their 172nd victory in the traditional Old Firm Derby between the Hoops and the Rangers – a clash that has thrilled the crowds since 1888 like hardly any other fixture. Victories against their city rivals are among the finest and most important of the entire season for both sides.
So it’s no surprise that even Celtic superfan Sir Rod Stewart can barely contain himself in the stands. Raising his clenched fist in the air, the singer celebrated his Celtic FC’s victory exuberantly and didn’t miss the chance to wave maliciously towards the Rangers supporters’ stand. As the saying goes, he who has suffered the loss need not worry about the mockery.
