Rocker Rod Stewart must have been really pleased. His beloved Celtic Football Club celebrated a successful start to the new 2025/26 season. In their home game against FC St. Mirren, the Hoops won 1-0 (0-0).
While Sir Rod enjoyed a well-deserved day off after some magnificent performances on his US tour, Celtic manager Brandon Rodgers gathered his players in distant Glasgow for the Scottish champions' first appearance of the new season.
After Celtic legend Paul McStay officially opened the new season by raising the league flag, the ball rolled for the first time in a sold-out Celtic Park, where one seat remained empty because Sir Rod is currently still in the United States, watching his boys play on the club's own television channel, Celtic TV.
And Sir Rod must have been pleased with his team's performance. Celtic dominated throughout the 90 minutes and created several excellent chances. However, St Mirren managed to hold on to the goalless draw until the final stages, with a goal from Callum McGregor being disallowed by VAR for a foul in the build-up.
It was not until the 87th minute that Luke McCowan redeemed the home side with a late winner, helping the Hoops to a successful start to the season.
Next Sunday, Celtic will be away to Aberdeen FC at 12.30 p.m. local time, with Rod sure to be watching on TV in faraway North America again.
