When Sir Rod Stewart is presented with the Lifetime Achievement Award on stage at the Fontainebleau at the American Music Awards in Las Vegas tonight, he may remember that he already received such an award 26 years ago, almost to the day.
On 27 May 1999, Rod Stewart was also presented with a lifetime achievement award for music by the Ivor Academy in London. The Ivor Novello Awards, as they are known, have been presented annually since 1956 by the Ivor Academy, formerly the British Academy of Songwriters, Composers and Authors, to honour outstanding achievements in songwriting and composition. Please note: The awards and nominations go to the songwriters of the nominated works, not the performers, unless they are also songwriters.
The singer has also announced a special live performance at tonight's American Music Awards in Las Vegas. The event starts at 8pm ET (2am CEST) and will be broadcast live on CBS and Paramount+.
