First of all: Congratulations Sir Rod Stewart! The British music legend was presented with the Lifetime Achievement Award at the American Music Awards in Las Vegas last night. And the organisers really managed to surprise the 80-year-old.
None other than his five children Kimberley, Sean, Ruby, Renee and Liam were on stage at the Fontainebleau Hotel on the Las Vegas Strip to receive the honour, which Sir Rod probably didn't realise beforehand. ‘I'm completely flabbergasted. I didn't realise they were here - my children,’ Rod told the audience.

Daughter Ruby had previously announced on stage: ‘Tonight we are here as loving fans of our father Sir Rod Stewart. Some people have all the luck and some stay young forever, but our dad is so much more than that.’ And Renee Stewart added: ‘Our dad has the soul, the courage and the passion that has carried him through a career spanning over 60 years.’
After a short film about the career of ‘Papa Stew’, as his children call him, a visibly moved Rod Stewart took to the stage, hugged each of his five children and then accepted the award from his eldest daughter Kimberly.
‘When I started singing in the early 60s, long before you were all here, I started because I had this burning ambition to sing. That was all I wanted to do. I didn't want to be rich or famous, and here I am, a few years later, collecting this wonderful award,’ Sir Rod said to thunderous applause from the audience, before turning to his children again: ’I'm so fucking overwhelmed that you're here.'
Finally, Sir Rod gave a rousing live performance of his hit ‘Forever Young’, which catapulted the audience out of their seats and provided one of the biggest highlights of the entire evening.
