Honour where honour is due. One of Rod Stewart's biggest hits has achieved belated fame 42 years after its release.
Sir Rod announced yesterday on social media that his 1983 hit ‘Baby Jane’ has reached an exciting milestone by achieving ‘gold status’ in the UK.
The 80-year-old shared the big news in a social media post on 9 September, posting a clip of the music video with the caption ‘ROD STEWART “BABY JANE” AWARDED GOLD IN THE UK’.
He added a special tribute to the fans who continue to make the song so popular, writing in the caption: ‘A big thank you to all the fans who have kept this song alive, this song is for you.’
For a song to be certified gold in the UK by the British Phonographic Industry (BPI), a single must have sold 400,000 copies. According to the BPI's official website, ‘Baby Jane’ was officially certified gold on 15 August 2025.
