Rod fans take note! On 12 July, the TV channel ‘arte’ will show a portrait of Sir Rod Stewart entitled ‘Rod Stewart: The Rebel of English Pop’.
The nearly 60-minute documentary looks back on the music legend's impressive career – from his beginnings in the Jeff Beck Group, through his time with the Faces, to his sensational career as a solo artist. arte writes in its programme announcement: "Rod Stewart is a great performer whose rough, warm voice has become his trademark. A singer who managed to keep up with all the fashions – and sometimes even anticipate them. As the singer of the Jeff Beck Group, which owes so much to Led Zeppelin, he was a pioneer of hard rock. With the band Faces, which also featured future Rolling Stones guitarist Ron Wood, he was one of the most important sources of inspiration for English punk. Even the Sex Pistols revered him for his sensitive and humorous lyrics, which depict the everyday life of the British working class."
The joint broadcaster of ARD, ZDF, France Television and Radio France is endeavouring to create a new image of Sir Rod. "The documentary paints a new portrait of the singer. It features numerous, sometimes rare archive recordings from 1965 as well as exclusive interviews with Glen Matlock (Sex Pistols), Steve Diggle (Buzzcocks), Suzi Quatro, James Litherland (L. J. Baldry Band), Matt and Issey Cartlidge (The Molotovs), Pat Gilbert (Mojo Magazine) and Rebecca Baby (Lulu Van Trapp)," according to the programme announcement. The Rod Stewart portrait will be broadcast on 12 July 2025 at 6 a.m. (CEST).
On 9 July 2025, arte will show a recording of the legendary concert from the Royal Albert Hall in October 2004. The programme will begin at 10.45 p.m. (CEST). The concert, part of the ‘From Maggie May to the Great American Songbook’ tour, will also be available in the arte media library from 2 July.
