Honour to whom honour is due! It was announced yesterday that Sir Rod Stewart will receive the Lifetime Achievement Award at the 51st edition of the American Music Awards next Monday, 26 May. The producers of the ‘AMAs’, CBS and Dock Clark Production, made the announcement yesterday.
‘This award recognises his incomparable career, body of work and unparalleled contributions to music over nearly six decades, and honours his lasting legacy and enduring influence on generations of artists and fans,’ the announcement said.
‘Sir Rod Stewart is a masterful showman whose charisma and energy have withstood the test of time and epitomise the spirit of rock'n'roll,’ said executive producers Barry Adelman and Alexi Mazareas of Dick Clark Productions. ‘We look forward to another epic performance on the AMAs stage and celebrating his incredible body of work as he receives the Lifetime Achievement Award.’
Back in 1994, Sir Rod was honoured with the ‘International Artist Award for Excellence’ at the American Music Awards. This honours artists whose popularity and impact transcend national borders.
‘I am honoured to receive the AMAs Lifetime Achievement Award 🎶 I also have a very special live performance planned for you all,’ Stewart announced via his social media channels. This will be the singer's first appearance at the American Music Awards since 1994.
The star-studded event will kick off the summer on Monday at the new luxury Fontainebleau resort in Las Vegas with host Jennifer Lopez. The 51st AMAs promise a night of unforgettable performances, including from Lopez herself, and will air live coast-to-coast at 8 p.m. ET / 5 p.m. PT on the CBS Television Network and stream on Paramount+ in the U.S. Tickets for the show are on sale now at Ticketmaster.
