Sir Rod Stewart kicked off his German concerts this year at the weekend in Dortmund's Westfalenhalle and the ÖVB Arena in Bremen. And everyone wanted to see the superstar, who has announced that he wants to end his major tours after this year and take a step back, once again.
15,380 visitors made the pilgrimage to the Westfalenhalle in Dortmund last Saturday and turned the evening into a night that will not soon be forgotten. The organiser announced a few days before the concert: ‘We're sold out! The same was reported from Bremen. The ÖVB Arena was also sold out to the last seat on Sunday evening.
Both organisers then presented the 80-year-old music legend with the Sold Out Award. This prize is awarded to artists who perform in front of a sold-out audience in the respective arenas. In Dortmund, Stewart was presented with a trophy consisting of the words ‘Sold Out’ by Rainer Schüler, the manager of the Westfalenhalle. In Bremen, on the other hand, Sir Rod received a concert poster bearing the corresponding lettering.
The Westfalenhalle's Sold Out Award has been presented since 2001. The list of musicians who have received this award in recent years includes such names as Iron Maiden, Judas Priest, Helene Fischer, Die Toten Hosen, DJ Bobo, Herbert Grönemeyer and Udo Lindenberg. Special TV events such as ‘Let's dance’ or ‘Schlagerboom’ have also been honoured with the Sold Out Award.
In Bremen, Arena boss Andreas Adolph was highly satisfied with how the evening went. ‘Such events are the result of long-term partnerships with artist agencies and tour organisers. We are delighted that our professional collaboration and the reliable realisation of complex productions are paying off,’ said Adolph. ‘Everything ran smoothly. Our team of technical, security and service staff did an outstanding job.’
Adolph is already looking forward to the next major events this year. The arena boss hopes that the metal band Iron Maiden will also be able to collect a Sold Out Award at their performance on 15 July.
