While Rod Stewart was still in Abu Dhabi enjoying the hours after his last concert of the year with his musicians, his beloved club Celtic had to play a catch-up match against Dundee United in Dundee, Scotland, in the evening.
And the Hoops, who had lost their last three games in a row, also came up short at Tannadice Park. The final score was 1-2 (1-0) after 90 minutes, marking the fourth defeat in four games for new manager Wilfried Nancy. There is unrest around Celtic Park, with many fans wishing for the return of Nancy's predecessor Martin O'Neill, who took over the team on an interim basis after Brendan Rodgers resigned at the end of October and was very successful.
Sir Rod is also less than amused by the recent performances of his Bhoys in green. "I'm angry, I'm really angry,‘ the singer told online radio station Talk Sport. ’I don't want to badmouth Nancy because I don't know him. But I saw him in an interview and I can't quite understand what he's saying," Stewart summed up. That's probably how some people feel at the moment; the new manager's style is not (yet) going down well with Celtic fans, who are used to success.
The majority of fans would like to see his predecessor O'Neill return to the manager's seat quickly, but Rod doesn't believe that will happen. ‘He (O'Neill) was asked if he would have stayed, to which he replied, “Yes, if I had been asked.” I think Nancy will keep his job, even though I would like Martin back. But we would have to pay Nancy off, and I don't think that will happen.’
