Once again, Sir Rod Stewart has shown his big heart and supported BBC presenter Sara Cox's charity Children in Need with a generous donation.

Cox, who presents the weekday teatime show on BBC Radio 2, walked a total of 135 miles in five days, collecting donations for Children in Need along the way. With a Pudsey Bear backpack on her back, the DJ travelled through Durham, North Yorkshire and West Yorkshire, receiving numerous messages of support from famous personalities, including Prince William.

Sir Rod also got wind of the campaign and gave the presenter a boost with a loving Instagram message and an ‘incredibly generous donation’, as Cox put it.

On Friday afternoon, BBC Radio 2 posted a picture of Sir Rod on its Instagram account with a voice message in which he said: ‘Hello Sara Cox, this is Rod Stewart, I'm doing my workout right now. Good luck, love, keep it up, you're an absolute hero, you really are.’

He then sang the song ‘Keep right on 'til the end of the road’ before laughing and adding, ‘Well done, darling.’

The caption accompanying the post read: ‘Sir Rod Stewart makes an incredibly generous donation to Sara's Great Northern Marathon Challenge for Children in Need.’ This was followed by a teddy bear and heart emoji.

By Friday evening, the presenter had raised £9,523,028. Cox said she was ‘completely exhausted’ during the annual charity telethon, which aired on the BBC that evening, adding, ‘It was like a rollercoaster ride. My mood literally changed every three or four seconds. It was a lot.’
