The title race in the Scottish Premiership is heating up – much to the delight of our very own Rod. Leaders Heart of Midlothian now hold just a two-point lead over their pursuers, Celtic and Rangers. And Celtic are suddenly back in control of their own destiny in the title defence.
Rarely in recent years has the Scottish championship been as exciting as it is this season. Hearts had been leading the table quite comfortably in recent weeks, with their Glasgow rivals chasing them more or less unsuccessfully in the wake of the leaders’ victories.
But now the tide has turned. Celtic Football Club won their home match against Motherwell FC comfortably yesterday, 3-1 (1-1). The goals for the Hoops were scored by Hyun-Jan Yang (38’ and 79’) and Tomas Cvancara (72’, penalty). Motherwell had initially taken the lead through Elijah Just (32’).

Following a pleasing afternoon for the Bhoys in Green, more good news arrived in the evening: league leaders Hearts lost their match away to Kilmarnock FC 0–1, leaving them with just a two-point lead over manager Martin O’Neill’s side. With one more head-to-head clash remaining, Celtic now have the title back in their own hands. A win in the championship decider against the Edinburgh side would see Celtic overtake Hearts and claim top spot.
Nor should we forget Rangers, Celtic’s arch-rivals, whom the Hoops knocked out of the FA Cup on penalties last week; they are not in action until this Sunday, and a win at St Mirren would leave them just three points behind the league leaders.

So excitement and drama are certainly guaranteed; it remains to be seen whether Celtic’s superfan Sir Rod Stewart will be celebrating in the end or will have to drown his disappointment at a missed league title in a glass of good Wolfie’s whisky.
