He suffered with his club, he repeatedly expressed his antipathy towards the now dismissed unsuccessful coach Wilfried Nancy, but on his 81st birthday, Sir Rod Stewart was once again able to enjoy the footballing performances of his Celtic Football Club.
On the 22nd match day of the Scottish Premiership, the reigning champions from Glasgow returned to winning ways and put a smile back on the birthday boy's face.
In their home game against Dundee United, the Hoops, who will now be managed by club legend Martin O'Neill until the end of the season, secured a clear and comfortable 4-0 (2-0) victory. Hyun-Jun Yang (27') and Belgian Arne Engels (32') scored a deserved 2-0 lead before the break, which Benjamin Nygren (63') and Japanese Daizen Maeda (69') extended in the second half.
Celtic dominated the game at will, clearly calling the shots with almost 80 per cent possession in a rather one-sided match in which the visitors had nothing to say.
Rod then had every reason to toast his Bhoys' victory in green and his birthday in style.
