Whether Sir Rod Stewart dropped his gyros pita in shock the evening before has not been reported. The fact is, the singer, who was travelling as a tourist the day after his concert in Athens and had visited the Acropolis with his band, among other things, was unlikely to have been pleased with the news that came in from Glasgow in the early evening. There, his beloved Celtic Football Club had lost the League Cup final 1-3 to the underdogs St. Mirren FC. The Hoops fell behind after just two minutes when Marcus Fraser scored with a header. Reo Hatate managed to equalise after 20 minutes, but in the second half, the Bhoys were caught out twice on the counterattack: Jonah Ayunga delivered the final knockout blow to Celtic with two counterattack goals in the 64th and 76th minutes. It was the Scottish champions' third defeat in three games under new manager Wilfried Nancy.
